Chapter 683: Not Keeping Me Company, but Her?
“What are you going to do? Don’t you dare touch him!” Even now, the woman was still defending Jaden.
But this time, Colin was not going to let Jaden off the hook.
He was seething with rage, and since he didn’t dare take it out on the Mendozas, he was going to unleash all his fury on Jaden instead.

After Adeline turned to leave, a bodyguard said to her, “Mr. Thomson said he’ll be here soon.”

Adeline pinched the bridge of her nose in exasperation. “You told him?”
The bodyguard looked back with an innocent expression. “Mr. Thomson instructed us to inform him immediately if anything happened to you, no matter how small.”
That was definitely Harrison’s style. Adeline couldn’t really fault him for it.
She decided to wait for him at a restaurant next to the hotel.
She was feeling a bit hungry anyway.
After sitting down, she texted Harrison the name of the restaurant. Before long, he arrived in a hurry.
Normally, when they dined out, he would sit across from her.
This time, however, he slid into the seat right next to her, took her hand, and gave her a thorough once-over.
“What’s with the inspection? I’m fine,” Adeline said with a laugh. “I had so many bodyguards with me. How could anything happen to me?”
She had just been annoyed by the whole ordeal, nothing more.
The bodyguards had already reported to Harrison that Adeline was unharmed, but he needed to see for himself before he could fully relax.
Once he was sure she was alright, his expression hardened. “Who bullied you?”
The bodyguards had only given him a brief summary over the phone—just the gist, not the specifics.
He had hung up and rushed over right away.
“Who could possibly bully me?” Adeline smiled and gently ruffled his hair. “Alright, alright, don’t be mad. I’m not even angry anymore. I just ran into a couple of entitled jerks. I’ve already decided to have the Mendozas’ legal team file a lawsuit against them.”
She didn’t mention that Jaden was Daphne Vaughn’s ex-boyfriend.
That was personal information, after all.
If Daphne hadn’t told Harrison herself, it wasn’t Adeline’s place to bring it up.
“I already told you,” Adeline said with a sigh. “This isn’t worth your time.”
“It’s fine. It didn’t take much effort,” Harrison replied with a small smile. “Besides, I’m your boyfriend. Do you expect me to just sit back and do nothing after something like this?”
Adeline considered it. He had a point.
It would be unfair to ask him to stay out of it.
So be it. She would handle things her way, and he would handle things his way.
Colin, who thought he could bully others with his influence, and his unhinged daughter deserved to face some consequences.
When the food arrived, Adeline ate slowly while Harrison sat beside her, handing her napkins and refilling her water from time to time. He showed no sign of impatience, only murmuring softly, “Take your time. Eating too fast this late isn’t good for you.”
The food at this restaurant was average at best, but Adeline wasn’t looking for a big meal anyway. She had only ordered a small portion.
After she finished, she checked the time and said to Harrison, “I’m going back to the hotel room to keep Daphne company. You should head home.”
Before leaving her room, Daphne had been asleep, but Adeline wasn’t sure when she might wake up. She was worried Daphne might be feeling down and wanted to be there for her.
Harrison’s brow furrowed slightly.
“So instead of keeping me company, you’re keeping her company?”
“Oh, you.” Adeline reached out and pinched his cheek. “No being difficult, or I’ll hit you.”
“You’d hit me for her,” Harrison sighed.
Adeline’s lips twitched.
She had only been joking a moment ago, but now she genuinely felt like hitting him.
Jokes aside, Harrison could tell that Daphne was going through something, which was why Adeline wanted to stay with her.
He wasn’t about to get in the way of their friendship.
“I’ll come with you to the hotel,” he said. “It’s late. I’ll just stay there for the night.”
At least if they were in the same hotel, that would be some comfort.
But Adeline pursed her lips and said, “No. Stay at a different hotel.”
She knew it wasn’t worth letting what happened tonight get to her, but she still didn’t want Harrison staying at Colin’s hotel. It felt jinxed.
If Daphne hadn’t already been asleep, she would have taken her somewhere else entirely.
Hearing her reasoning, Harrison immediately understood.
And of course, he indulged her.

Just as Adeline was about to say goodbye, Colin came rushing out of the hotel.

“Miss Mendoza, please give me another chance,” Colin begged. “I want to properly apologize. I’ve already locked my daughter up at home. I’ll make sure to discipline her thoroughly.”
Adeline remained unmoved. If anything, her expression flickered with annoyance.
She was starting to feel sleepy. All she wanted was to go back to her room and rest with Daphne.
And yet this man had to come running up to pester her again.
Colin was well aware that he was annoying her, but he couldn’t give up. He wouldn’t be able to relax until he heard Adeline say she forgave him with her own lips.
Just as he was about to continue pleading, a sudden chill crept down his spine, making him shiver involuntarily.
